Smooth Sailing, Perhaps?

Hello there, ladies and gents of The Revenge, and how are all of you this fine morning? Well, I assume? Good. Quite the same over here. Nothing tragically wrong with the winds that carry our ship, but, then again, nothing quite fantastic either, eh?

A thought just occurred to me, as they so often do.

Why settle for contentment?

I'd like to point out how ridiculously boring it is. from whatever level you examine it, "just being happy" is not really all that great. Then again, who am I to dictate what satisfies people? Too true, too true.

Well, then, i'll proceed to go off on a rant aobut not settling for being content, alright? Good.

In this little old brain of mine, i just see no reason to stop. Why should'nt you push yourself to excel in all that you do? Why not run the extra mile? Why not take it a step further? Why not dare to make a difference? Why not step out of the circle just for the thrill of seeing what it's like? Why not apply yourself? Why not work to your fullest potential? Why not realize that potential? Why not look around and see what a beautiful and glorious place we live in? Why not see the art in everything? Why not go out of your way for someone? Why not show gratitude? Why not respect?

Why not live life to nothing short of the fullest?

Because we are hindered. Because there are eople out there who convince us otherwise. There are mothers who need your room cleaned before they encourage. Their are fathers who need the touchdown scored before you sing the solo. There are friends who need to "stick it to the man" before they realize they can do that in more ways than one. There are too many people who punch before they think and people who take too long thinking before they punch. There are people who try to convince us that settking for less is better, easier, more fun, and a great time.

You know what the issue is? There is a door to be opened between satisfaction and excitement. On that door is written challenge and difficulty and daring and pain. Opening that door is no small feat.

All we have to remember is that it takes a bit of a push. It's an old door whose hinges have yet to be tested.

Ladies and gents, i intend to blow that door right off.

P.S. I got my hair cut. All of them, in fact. Really short. :)

Being content is rather unfulfilling. I have to say my favorite part was "There are too many people who punch before they think and people who take too long thinking before they punch." Hmmm where have I heard that before. *looks of to the side*

OOO yay for haircuts. Just thought I'd point out that while being content is boring, being dreadfully depressed is terrible. Well todays the 15th so that means I move today. I won't be able to come online unless I come to visit my dad, but he's never home so how can I visit him. So anyway I won't have a computer for awhile so I guess I'll see you at vocal jazz. Also, I have to do it...You can push yourself but don't push till you snap, you can run that extra mile but if you're going to collapse before you finish don't, not all things should be taken a step further, dare to make adifference as long as you're not trying to change someone else, and well the rest are pretty good things to do. Well I'm out I have to be finished packing by noon.

    Love always,
    Heather

you got your haircut?!?! Oh no! I had gotten accustomed to the long hair...i liked it. Jess Kramer did too. she told me to tell you that.

I do agree, though. Why on earth should we settle for content? I think i have been doing that too much lately and i decided that this year i will settle for settle for nothing less than what i can reach at my full potential. I am going to do my best to excel in everything that i do. It's a shame it took me 2 years to remember that again.

people can be very fearful of change. We peronally are lucky enough to be able to take risks and challenges and push ourselves and even fail without any serious repercussions. others though, they work hard, make a home, support a family (or themselves) and that comes first, so when the opportunity comes up that they COULD stretch the bar...they can only think of what is closest to them and are too afraid of what it may mean to them should they fail. While it is not a bad mind set, it does cause for much frustration in the global sense because it breeds for the "it doesn't affect me, so I don't care" mentality. They are too consumed with their immediate lives to be able to or want to worry about what the wider world is doing. I personally find it infuriating because it is the picture of complacency and shows how droolingly sheepish so many people really are and how they are practically begging to be taken advantage of.

    so....to hell with contentment.

ps. I totally lost your blog for like, two weeks! way to tell me you were changing it. lameface. ; )

Nick, lemme ask you one question I want a serious answer to.

thanks for that post nick. it's always good to know there will be eople to tell us otherwise. ;D i'm just bugging ya.

see, the thing about contentment is that it only looks good when you've hit rock bottom. but almost anything looks good from so far away.

i wish you many days of utter joy so you never look at contentment with longing eyes again.

    luv always

um has this old door never been opened? Even when it was a new door? Is it a secret door? Because no one can resist a secret door. That's something that Bloo has taught me. I can't imagine no one opening a new door...

  • At 1:36 PM, Blogger Lancehead said…

Hey Tori, do ya want to be a pirate?

  • At 5:01 PM, Blogger Cap'n Vincent said…

Or, Tori, you have such an extreme lack of imagination that you just don't know what to do about it? What happened to the girl who believes in dragons? It's the same concept.

    O_O
telling someone they have no imagination is like telling them that they have no soul, I believe that you have a cornacopia of imagination Tori and Nick can be a god damn freaking pirate called the ace of god damn spades or or whatever if he really wants to. And kel-c there are so many life lessons that can be learned from Bloo hence "it's hot in topica"
